ASN Innovations in Kidney Education Contest winners

The American Society of Nephrology runs the Innovations in Kidney Education Contest to stimulate the development of innovative tools to inspire students and trainees to think about nephrology in new ways. They have been running this program since 2015. And this contest has been a playground for NSMC interns and graduates. An NSMC graduate has won this award every year since 2017 (the contest was not held in 2019).

And the 2022 winners also include NSMC alumni in the Channel Your Enthusiasm Podcast. Here are the 2022 Innovations in Kidney Education Contest winners!

Mayo Clinic College of Medicine (Arizona)

The Mayo Clinic Arizona with the help of the Center for Individualized Medicine, developed 5 conversational webinars and 5 interactive modules that highlight the value of genetic testing for patients with a wide variety of kidney problems. Topics include:

  1. Genetic testing and CKD

  2. Genetic testing and glomerular disease

  3. Genetic testing and transplant clinic

  4. Genetic testing and kidney stones

  5. Genetic tests and the role of genetic counselor

They are looking to recruit more individuals for our educational research study that randomizes participants to either the webinars alone or the interactive modules. Participants will be asked to complete a qualitative survey and multiple choice knowledge assessment questions before and 6 months after completion of the intervention.

This study opportunity is open to trainees, physicians, and allied heath staff within the divisions of nephrology and kidney transplant.

They want to extend this study to participants outside of Mayo. Contact Keddis.mira@mayo.edu for more information.
